Shopify + SurveyAnalytica
Surveys on your storefront, flows driven by real order events, and write-back into Shopify — customers, metafields, segments and marketing consent.
Install from the Shopify App Store and the store becomes a two-way channel. A theme app block puts a survey on any storefront page. Order and customer events arrive as HMAC-verified webhooks that SurveyAnalytica registers for you. And more than 50 generated Admin API actions write the result back — scores onto customer metafields, shoppers into segments, tags, discount codes, fulfilment updates — with raw REST and GraphQL when a named action is not enough.
Workflow triggers
Order and store events
Orders, customers, products, checkouts, fulfilments and the rest of Shopify's webhook topics start flows the moment they happen. Picking a topic registers the webhook with your store; deliveries are HMAC-verified and bound to the shop they came from.
Storefront behaviour
The app embed records page and product views, collection browsing, searches and cart changes, so flows can react to what a shopper did — and models can score shoppers who never answered a survey. Off by default, and silent until the shopper grants analytics consent through Shopify's own privacy API.
Scheduled store reads
Run a flow on a schedule against incremental, cursor-paginated reads of orders, products and customers — for backfills, digests and feature pipelines rather than per-event reactions.
Workflow actions
Customers, consent and segments
Create and update customers, add and remove tags, update email and SMS marketing consent, and create Shopify segments from what you learn — an NPS detractor segment appears in your own Shopify admin, where Shopify Flow and your other apps can use it.
Metafields and metaobjects
Write survey scores, CX flags and support cases onto customers, orders and products as metafields, or as app-owned metaobjects. This is how a rating becomes something the rest of your stack can segment and filter on.
Orders, fulfilment and incentives
Update, cancel, capture and invoice orders, create draft orders and fulfilments, update tracking, adjust inventory, and issue discount codes as the incentive at the end of a recovery flow.
REST and GraphQL
Call any Admin API endpoint directly when a named action doesn't cover it. Every action is generated from Shopify's own schema, pinned to an API version, and dispatched with idempotency keys and rate-limit backoff.
How data flows
Inbound: store events arrive as verified webhooks, storefront behaviour streams from the app embed, and scheduled reads pull orders, products and customers incrementally. Outbound: more than 50 Admin API actions covering customers, consent, segments, metafields, metaobjects, orders, fulfilments, products, inventory and discounts. The loop most merchants run first: order fulfilled → post-purchase survey → score written to a customer metafield → segment built from it → campaign to that segment.
Connection: Installed from the Shopify App Store. You decide which SurveyAnalytica account and workspace the store connects to: nothing is created until you sign in or register, with any email you choose. The access token is held server-side and never reaches the browser, and every webhook delivery is signature-verified and matched to the store that sent it.
Worked example: Post-purchase NPS that ends in a Shopify segment
Trigger: the orders/fulfilled webhook fires when an order ships.
Wait three days, so the question arrives after the parcel does.
Send the NPS question on WhatsApp or email — or collect it on the storefront with the theme app block.
Write the score onto the Shopify customer as a metafield, and tag the customer.
Create a Shopify segment from that metafield: "At-risk customers" now exists in your Shopify admin, usable by Shopify Flow and every other app you run.
Branch on the score: detractors get a recovery offer with a generated discount code, promoters get a review request.
Ready-made flow templates
Install a shipped template and adapt it — no build-from-scratch required.
Setting it up
1.
Install SurveyAnalytica from the Shopify App Store, then sign in or create an account — you choose which workspace the store connects to.
2.
In your theme editor, add the SurveyAnalytica block to a template and paste your collector ID to show a survey on that page.
3.
Optionally turn on the app embed and add your clickstream flow's ID and key to collect storefront behaviour.
4.
Pick a trigger topic in the flow designer; the webhook is registered with your store for you.
5.
Install a post-purchase template, choose the survey and the channel, and activate it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate SurveyAnalytica account?
You need an account, but you choose which one. Installing from the App Store connects the store to whichever SurveyAnalytica account you sign in with, or to one you create during the install using any email you like — your store's contact address is only ever a suggestion. Nothing is created before you authenticate. If the store is already connected to another organisation, we name it and its owner so you can ask them for access.
How am I billed?
Through Shopify. You pick a plan in your Shopify admin and it appears on your Shopify invoice, with usage beyond your plan's allowance metered there too — there is no separate card to enter, and cancelling the app cancels the plan.
Do I have to configure Shopify webhooks manually?
No. Picking a trigger topic registers the webhook with your store, and every delivery is signature-verified and matched to the store it came from before it can start a flow. Deactivating the flow removes the subscription again.
What does storefront tracking collect?
Page and product views, collection browsing, searches and cart changes, with your Shopify customer ID when the shopper is logged in — never an email address or any other personal detail. It is off until you enable the app embed, and even then it sends nothing until the shopper has granted analytics consent through Shopify's own customer privacy API.
Can survey results become a Shopify segment?
Yes, and this is the part most feedback apps stop short of. Write the score to a customer metafield, then create a segment from it — the segment appears in your Shopify admin like any other, so Shopify Flow's "Customer joined segment" trigger and your other apps can act on it without SurveyAnalytica in the loop.
Which channels can the post-purchase survey use?
Any campaign channel — email, SMS, WhatsApp and more — as well as the storefront itself. Order and delivery updates qualify as utility messages on WhatsApp; promotional sends such as cart recovery are marketing messages and need the shopper's marketing opt-in, which the integration can read from and write back to Shopify.
Which permissions does it ask for?
The install asks for very little — enough to place a survey on your storefront. Anything more is requested at the moment you configure an action that needs it, so you approve writing to customers or products when you actually use it, not on the day you install.
What about API rate limits?
Shopify actions dispatch with idempotency keys and back off automatically, honouring the wait Shopify asks for rather than guessing, so a burst of orders does not lose deliveries.
