End Pages, Preview & Publishing

Configure what respondents see after completing your survey, preview across devices, and publish with confidence using the response calculator.

1. End Page Types

Every survey needs a strong finish. SurveyAnalytica offers five end page types, each designed for a different post-survey experience. Choose the type that best fits your goals, whether that is a simple thank you, a redirect to your website, or a fully customized results dashboard built with formulas and dynamic content.

Thank You Page

Simple completion message with customizable heading, body text, and optional image. Best for most surveys where you want to express gratitude and confirm the response was received successfully.

Results Page

Show respondents their scores, analytics, or personalized results immediately after completion. Great for quizzes, assessments, personality tests, and any survey where feedback adds value to the respondent.

External Link

Redirect respondents to another URL after completion. Supports field forwarding to pass response data via URL parameters. Useful for redirecting to your website, a landing page, or a follow-up action.

Start Page

Restart the survey from the beginning after completion. Ideal for kiosk mode deployments, in-store terminals, trade show booths, or any shared-device scenario where multiple respondents take the same survey.

Custom End Page

Full drag-and-drop builder with formula components. Create rich, dynamic completion experiences with SUM, AVG, and custom variable displays. Build personalized dashboards, certificates, or results summaries.

Tip: You can set different end pages for different conditional branches. For example, show a “Pass” results page for respondents who score above 80% and a “Try Again” start page for those below. Configure this under Survey Rules > End Page Conditions.

Important: If you select the External Link type and the destination URL is unreachable, respondents will see a browser error page. Always test your redirect URL before publishing.

Using Templates

Browsing and Previewing Templates

1Navigate to the End Page section of the survey builder by clicking the “End Page” tab.
2Click the “Browse Templates” button to open the template gallery.
3Use the category tabs at the top to filter templates by type (Thank You, Results, Quiz, etc.).
4Hover over any template card to see a live preview of the layout and content.
5Click “Preview” on a template card to open a full-screen preview with sample data.

Applying a Template to Your End Page

1Find the template you want and click the “Use Template” button on the card.
2In the confirmation dialog, choose whether to replace your current end page or merge the template content.
3The template content loads into the end page builder where you can customize text, colors, images, and layout.
4Edit the placeholder text to match your survey context and brand voice.
5Click “Save” to apply your customized end page to the survey.

Tip: Templates are starting points, not constraints. After applying a template, you have full control over every element. Change colors, swap images, add or remove sections, and insert formula components to create your ideal end page experience.

3. End Page Builder

The End Page Builder provides a drag-and-drop interface for creating rich, dynamic completion pages. Use the rich text editor for content, insert formula components to display calculated values, add custom variables for personalization, and embed images and media for a polished experience.

Conditional Content Blocks

Show or hide content blocks based on respondent answers or calculated scores. Create branching end page experiences that display different messages for different outcomes.

Building a Custom End Page

1Select “Custom End Page” as your end page type from the End Page settings dropdown.
2Click “Open End Page Builder” to launch the drag-and-drop editor in a full-screen workspace.
3Add text blocks, headings, and images using the component toolbar on the left side. Drag components onto the canvas and arrange them in your desired layout.
4Insert formula components to display calculated results. Click the fx button, select a formula type (SUM, AVG, etc.), and choose which questions to include in the calculation.
5Use custom variables to personalize the message. Click the {x} button and select the question or metadata field to pipe into the end page content.
6Preview the end page with sample data by clicking the “Preview” icon. The builder generates mock responses so you can see how formulas and variables render.
7Save and activate the end page by clicking “Save” in the builder toolbar. The custom end page is now linked to your survey.

Tip: Formula components update in real time as the respondent completes the survey. You can combine multiple formulas on a single end page. For example, display SUM for total score, AVG for average rating, and a CUSTOM variable that shows which category the respondent falls into.

Warning: If a formula references a question that the respondent skipped (due to conditional rules), the formula will exclude that question from the calculation and show results based only on answered questions. Ensure your formulas account for optional questions to avoid confusing results.

4. Multi-Language End Pages

If your survey supports multiple languages, your end pages should too. SurveyAnalytica lets you provide per-language completion messages so every respondent sees the end page in their language. Configure translations for each end page type, including custom builder pages with formula components.

Configuring Multi-Language End Pages

1Ensure your survey has multiple languages enabled under Survey Settings > Languages. Add all target languages before configuring end page translations.
2Navigate to the End Page section of the survey builder.
3Select the language tab at the top of the end page editor. You will see tabs for each enabled language (e.g., English, Spanish, French).
4Edit the heading, body text, and button labels for each language. Each language has its own independent content area.
5For Custom End Pages, switch languages in the builder to translate text blocks, headings, and labels while keeping formula components and layout structure consistent.
6Click “Save” to store all language versions. The correct version displays automatically based on the respondent’s selected language.

Tip: Formula components (SUM, AVG, etc.) do not require translation since they display numeric values. However, the labels around formulas (such as “Your total score:”) should be translated for each language. Use the language tabs in the Custom End Page Builder to update these labels.

Important: Always preview your survey in each language to verify that end page translations display correctly. Some languages require more space than others, so check that your layout accommodates longer text strings without breaking the design.

5. Preview

Before publishing, use the Preview feature to experience your survey exactly as respondents will. Test every question, validate conditional rules, check translations, and verify that your end page displays correctly across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Preview Features

Layout Preview

See how each layout type renders, including classic, conversational, and single-page layouts. Verify that your chosen layout displays all questions and navigation elements correctly.

Device Simulation

Preview your survey on Desktop (1440px), Tablet (768px), and Mobile (375px) viewports. Ensure responsive layouts, question spacing, and button sizes work well on every screen.

Rule Validation

Verify that conditional logic, skip patterns, and branching rules work correctly. Select different answers during preview to trigger all possible paths through your survey.

Multi-Language Preview

Switch between all enabled languages directly within the preview. Confirm that translations are complete, text fits within the layout, and the end page displays correctly in each language.

Theme Preview

See your applied theme in full context. Preview custom colors, fonts, backgrounds, and branding elements to ensure a consistent visual experience from start to finish.

How to Preview Your Survey

1Click the “Preview” button in the survey builder toolbar (top-right corner). The preview opens in a new panel or full-screen overlay.
2Select a device type using the toggle at the top of the preview: Desktop, Tablet, or Mobile. The preview frame resizes to match the selected viewport.
3Walk through the survey as a respondent would. Answer questions, click Next/Back, and observe page transitions and progress indicators.
4Test conditional rules by selecting different answers. Verify that skip logic, branching, and visibility rules trigger correctly and route to the expected questions.
5Switch languages using the language selector in the preview toolbar to verify that all translations are complete and display properly.
6After completing the survey in preview, verify that your end page renders correctly with any formula components and custom variables populated with sample data.
7Close preview by clicking the “X” button or pressing Escape to return to the survey editing workspace.

Tip: Preview mode does not record any responses. You can take the survey as many times as you like in preview without affecting your response data. Use this to thoroughly test every conditional path and end page combination.

Note: Some integrations (payment questions, appointment scheduling) may not fully function in preview mode. These components display placeholder content instead. Test these features using a test publish with a private link.

6. Publishing

Publishing makes your survey live and accessible to respondents. SurveyAnalytica uses a Draft-to-Published workflow that ensures you review and confirm before going live. Once published, your survey accepts responses until you close it or the end date passes.

How to Publish

1Complete your survey design including all questions, rules, themes, and end pages. Ensure all required content is in place.
2Use Preview to walk through the entire survey and verify it works correctly (see Section 5).
3Click the “Publish” button in the top-right corner of the survey builder.
4In the publish confirmation dialog, review the summary: number of questions, enabled languages, active rules, and end page type. Confirm everything looks correct.
5Optionally set a start date and end date for automatic scheduling. Leave blank to start immediately with no expiration.
6Click “Confirm Publish” to make your survey live. You will receive a shareable survey link and QR code.

Editing a Published Survey

When a survey is published, editing is limited to protect data integrity. You can make the following changes to a live survey:

1Text corrections — Fix typos in question text, descriptions, and end page content.
2Theme changes — Update colors, fonts, and branding without affecting response structure.
3End page updates — Modify the end page content, redirect URL, or template.
4Close the survey — Manually stop accepting responses at any time.

Warning: Adding or removing questions, changing question types, or modifying answer options on a published survey can lead to inconsistent data. If structural changes are needed, consider closing the current survey and creating a new version instead.

Unpublishing a Live Survey

1Open the published survey in the survey builder.
2Click the “Unpublish” option in the survey menu (three-dot menu next to the Publish button).
3In the confirmation dialog, choose whether to close the survey (preserves responses, stops new submissions) or revert to draft (keeps all content but removes the live link).
4Confirm your choice. The survey status updates immediately and the survey link becomes inactive.

Tip: If you need to make significant changes to a published survey, use the “Duplicate” feature to create a copy. Edit the copy, then publish it as a new version while closing the original. This preserves all historical response data.

7. Response Calculator

Before publishing, use the Response Calculator to estimate how many responses you need for statistically significant results. The calculator uses standard sample size formulas based on your target population, desired confidence level, and acceptable margin of error to recommend a sample size goal.

The calculator produces a recommended sample size based on the standard statistical formula for sample size determination:

Using the Response Calculator

1Open the Response Calculator from the Publish section or the survey settings panel.
2Enter your Population Size. This is the total number of people you plan to distribute the survey to or the total size of your audience segment.
3Select your desired Confidence Level from the dropdown. For most business surveys, 95% is the standard choice. Use 99% for critical research or regulatory surveys.
4Adjust the Margin of Error slider. A 5% margin is common for customer feedback surveys. Tighten to 1-3% for high-stakes research or academic studies.
5Review the recommended sample size displayed in the output panel. This is the minimum number of complete responses you need.
6Click “Apply as Goal” to set this number as your response target. The survey dashboard will track your progress toward this goal.

Tip: The recommended sample size assumes a 50% response distribution (worst case for variability). If you have prior data suggesting a different distribution, the actual required sample size may be smaller. The calculator uses the conservative approach to ensure your results are statistically robust.

Important: Sample size is the number of complete responses, not the number of survey invitations sent. Account for your expected response rate when planning distribution. For example, if your response rate is typically 20% and you need 384 responses, you should distribute the survey to at least 1,920 people.

Setting a Response Goal

After using the calculator, clicking “Apply as Goal” sets the recommended sample size as your survey’s response target. This enables the following dashboard features:

Progress Ring

A visual progress indicator on the survey dashboard showing current responses versus your goal. See at a glance how close you are to statistical significance.

Estimated Completion

Based on your current response rate, the dashboard projects when you will reach your goal. Helps you plan distribution efforts and follow-up reminders.

Goal Notifications

Receive an email notification when your response goal is reached. Configure additional alerts at 50% and 75% milestones to stay informed of progress.

Tip: You can update your response goal at any time from the survey dashboard, even after publishing. If your population size changes or you want to adjust the confidence level, re-run the calculator and apply the new goal.
